Members of the
AMERICAN LEGISLATIVE EXCHANGE COUNCIL (ALEC)

ALEC is a secret organization whose members and activities are to remain undisclosed to the pubic. As used throughouot this document, “ALEC Activity” verifies that the Kansas representative participates in ALEC.

This booklet contains a listing of most of the Kansas legislators who are members of ALEC. Other Kansas legislators are also ALEC members but because documentation could not be provided, they are not included. The booklet was handed out in Wichita after the November 6th showing at the Murdock Theatre of Bill Moyers video, “The United States of ALEC.” For additional information about ALEC, go to these sites:

(a .pdf of the entire booklet is available for download here)

ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wish lists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC’s operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) describes itself as “America’s largest, nonpartisan, voluntary membership organization of state legislators.” But over 98% of its revenue comes from sources other than legislative dues, primarily from corporations and corporate foundations, http://www.prwatch.org/news/2011/07/10887/cmd-special-report-alecs-funding-and-spending.

After the 2010 Congressional midterm elections, ALEC boasted that “among those who won their elections, three of the four former state legislators newly-elected to the U.S. Senate are ALEC Alumni and 27 of the 42 former state legislators newly-elected to the U.S. House are ALEC Alumni,” prnewswire.com/news-releases/alec-congratulates-alumni-on-their-election-tofederal-office-106724288.html. ALEC’s agenda extends into almost all areas of law ALEC’s bills, as stated at alecexposed.org/wiki/Fact_Sheets undermine environmental regulations and deny climate change; support school privatization; undercut health care reform; defund unions and limit their political influence restrain legislatures’ abilities to raise revenue through taxes; mandate strict election laws that disenfranchise voters; and increase incarceration to benefit the private prison industry, among many other issues.
